Early Life

Ren Evergreen, Keeper of the Moon, was born in Kugane on the 2nd Sun of the 5th Astral Moon to Hingan nomadic parents. They didn't stay long anywhere, moving often all over the continent in order to maintain a safe distance away from the Garlemald occupation. When the fighting closed in and there was no where else to run in Othard, they fled to Eorzea by taking a ship from Kugane to Limsa Lominsa, then continued onward to the Black Shroud when Ren was about eight summers old.Ren's parents, perhaps anticipating their emigration, had adopted Eorzean Hyur naming conventions when their daughter was born, even changing her surname from theirs in hopes of better assimilation. They wove in parts of their culture with 'Ren' having the meaning of 'Lotus' in Hingan, and 'Evergreen' being the translated root word of their family name.Though there was a significant population of Hyurs and Keepers in the Shroud, Ren had a difficult time fitting in. She didn't have the common knowledge or experiences as her fellow Keepers that were expected of her based on her appearance, and she was branded as "not Miqo'te enough" to Eorzeans. When she visited Hingashi, she received more than several stares and whispers, some quite unkind, for her mannerisms being "too ijin". Caught bewteen two worlds and never fully accepted by either, Ren grew up as a timid, shy girl.

Young Adulthood

When Ren was a teenager, she got lost in the Twelveswood one day and accidentally wandered into a Coeurlclaw camp. Hearing of her troubles, they encouraged her to join them with honeyed words, promising that she would finally belong somewhere and feel accepted. She vehemently declined their offer, however, due to their penchant for poaching. Offended by her refusal, the bandits quickly encircled her and viciously attacked. Outnumbered and battered, just as she thought she would be dealt the finishing blow, Gridanian Wood Wailers came to her rescue.Ren felt she had a debt to repay to the city-state of Gridania for saving her life, despite feeling shunned by the civilians. She also wanted to learn how to defend herself so when she came of age, she enlisted with the Twin Adders. Working with a common purpose as others from all backgrounds and varied personalities helped Ren not feel so alone and rebuilt her pride by being able to protect herself and stand up for others. With continued displays of her dedication, grit, and performance, she was finally accepted by her peers.Ren worked hard with her newfound confidence, moved up the ranks all the way to Captain over several years, and retired from military service with an honorable discharge after the Battle of Cartenau.

Life as an Adventurer

Ren's family survived Bahamut's raze of Eorzea, but their farm was destroyed. The savings from her service with the Twin Adders would support her parents for a little while, but Ren knew she needed to secure a steady income, so she accepted the responsibility of learning how to work the land from a neighboring farm to try and rebuild hers. After the first harvest, Ren wanted to take a much-needed break before the spring planting, so she decided to go on a short holiday to Ul'dah, chosen simply because she never had the opportunity to visit before. The foray into Thanalan would radically change the course of her life as she was informed about the Adventure's Guild from a traveling merchant. Ren took his advice and checked out The Quicksand after arriving in the city-state. There, she met Momodi who helped her officially register as an adventurer. She took on a few small tasks to start, and the excitement of no two lucrative jobs ever being the same resulted in Ren finding her calling. Her "short holiday" turned into an extended stay and she was also able to send gil home regularly. Her parents were surprised by her missive detailing her new career, but were supportive of Ren carving her own path rather than following in her family's footsteps out of necessity. After the liberation of Doma, Ren's parents wanted to—at long last—return to their homeland, so they left their Eorzean property to their daughter and relocated back to Othard. They settled down in the Doman Enclave and opened a successful food stand within the Ten Thousand Stalls. With Ren's financial assistance no longer needed, she was truly free to pursue her life the way she saw fit. She traveled wherever the wind blew and took jobs all over the world, helped out anyone in need along the way, and enjoyed richly immersing herself in many other cultures. After a while of being a vagabond, Ren wanted to have places to retreat to between adventures, so she purchased a house in Shirogane and split her down times between there and her inherited family home outside of Gridania.Ren, the girl who never felt like she belonged in Eorzea nor Othard, was now a woman who put down roots to stand proudly in both worlds.

(Out of Character)

Final Fantasy XIV is the first and only MMO I've played (unless you count the beta 1.0 version of Ragnarok Online). At the urging of my partner I started playing A Realm Reborn on free play in May of 2024 on PS4. I subbed in late June (right before Dawntrail was released to avoid long queues), upgraded to PS5 in November and finished Endwalker in March of 2025. Finished Dawntrail (7.0) in May of 2025, just days short of my Renniversary.I am bilingual in English and Japanese so I play with Japanese audio and English text (so I'm done with cutscenes sooner than most during MSQ roulettes 😁). I prefer the Japanese voice acting, but it does mean I miss out on quoteable lines and accents. It's also why my social media posts are in both languages.Currently NIN main. Healing has also been more fun than I thought it would be. I do plan to level all jobs. Masc crush: Estinien. Femme crush: Zero and Shale. Bestie: Alisaie.
